The Practical Princess
The concept behind my collection stemmed from my love of wearing over-the-top princess dresses as a little girl who also loved to dance. Influenced by ‘pop princesses’ like Britney Spears in the 90s and early 2000s, each garment in my collection is intended to empower women. Drawn to the duality of the ‘pop princess’ attire, each look is designed with comfort in mind, as these women wore garments which were visually impactful on stage yet still allowed them to dance effortlessly. This collection, inspired by the idea of a ‘practical princess,’ is a nostalgic yet forward-thinking celebration of femininity fused with the functionality of sportswear. With a combination of knitted and tailored silhouettes, I have combined ultra-feminine aesthetics with practical sportswear materials and finishings, thoughtfully incorporated for the wearer’s comfort and freedom of movement. Inspired by the versatility of sportswear, my collection follows a ‘mix and match’ approach, offering multiple outfit combinations that reduce the need for the excessive consumption of clothing. The collection offers countless styling opportunities, promoting sustainability by maximizing wearability and minimizing the need for overconsumption. Each piece is made to make the wearer feel like a princess, ready for performance yet unrestricted, allowing them to move and dance effortlessly.
