Rho McGuire
Rho McGuire (b, 1999) is a Scottish artist working across performance and happenings. Their work is a tool for gathering. everything i wanted to, by Rho McGuire and friends is a community-based project developed through experimental workshops that prioritise mutual listening and reciprocity. everything i wanted to, is a live dance performance and film, scored with field recordings collected from rural Scotland.
McGuire maps out instructions to help us feel closer to the more-than-human. The participants and audience are invited to transcend from individuals to form a collective. The concept is derived from community being an ecosystem, something that is alive and does not rely on one singular person or place. Can folkdance allow us to learn to live together, not follow a leader? McGuire asks their collaborators to engage with improvisation and interaction, often referring to tectonic plates. This work has manifested from the concept that movement is not owned, it is borrowed, passed on or inherited. McGuire uses the body as the essential instrument, embodying the weather patterns of local landscape and choregraphing an encounter.
