Post Production and Film Music

In 4th Year one of our modules was Music for Film. we had to create post and music for selected movie clips of our own choice. This module being a favorite of mine, i love post and doing all the SFX. its great fun. i did sound production in college so i have years of experience at this point. the music side was more new to me and i had a great college Rob to help me along the way. him doing my music and i doing his and vice versa with the SFX in the clips.

The post side i did a range of things. recording my own especially footsteps as they always need to be ADR. i took SFX from my own library and online creating them into new ones or bending them into something i needed. it took time but at the end it created a sound field im proud of. keeping the anime feel but taking it in a new direction in comparison to the original film clip

I learned a lot from this project and had fun, as well a great piece to my portfolio. it also showed me sometimes its better to work together you stop each from going to far down on path and strike a unique creative balance.

trying to integrate music into the clip without having it overbearing was challenging but we found a balance. The synth heavy soundtrack really calls back to the original time of the 80s with the alien films which i think is fun but also keeps it very on theme.

Post Production by me. (showcase of the SFX side of this project, if you want to hear the music too check out robs page)

Life of Architecture: The effects of architecture on individuals and communities in Glasgow

My dissertation looks into the effects that architecture within Glasgow has on individuals as well as communities. I conduct reviews of relevant media research and delve into the history of my city as a way of finding the links between architecture and social issues that affect people within Glasgow. This then forms into my work as a statement piece on architecture and what it holds for many. i made a film for this piece of work but wish to continue this project and expand it into a film on non-places within Glasgow and showcasing them in a full length film.

Dhachaid Title card

“Dhachaid” .Derives from Gaelic which roughly translates into home in English. This rings true to my theme within my research Project. life is the core of what I speak about and “home” is full of life.

BLUE!

Sensitive Content.

BLUE! was a film i worked on in the first half of the year. while not prefect i like where it sits. its good enough that im proud but has things id love to redo if i had the time.

It’s the second instalment in my three part trilogy GREEN! being my first and now BLUE!, (RED! not complete yet sadly)

i learned a lot on lighting as that what i had set out to do and i did. i used multiple sources, getting creative using sheets of blue paper, bags that were see-through blue, even using the light from the tv and putting on Blue (Da Ba Dee) to get all these shades of blue throughout my scene. it was also my second film and i decided to cut down on actors as this was tricky to juggle in my last film which let me really focus in on the story telling and cinematography. it was also challenging as i shot it all in one day. This work has helped me with my editing skills as well as gave me the realization i cant do everything by myself. my previous film i had my friend who’s a photographer behind the camera so it was easier. i struggled on blue and you can tell. its better to have friends there to help. They can better help create my vision.

GREEN!

Content warning for swearing and mild references to drug distribution.

GREEN! was the first film i made in third year. it marks the beginning of my film trilogy with GREEN!, BLUE! and RED! all exploring different themes will keeping one in mind.

I had a lot of fun making this, id never done it before and i had this idea for awhile. i gathered my friends and we set out after i rented out a bunch of equipment. we shot it in a day and it was great! (minus the fact the equipment had missing pieces making the audio and video not linked) once done with filming i set out to edit it together. I had never done that before and it shows but i still enjoyed this project. While it has it flaws i still enjoy it and i think is good to see progress from where i started. some days i wish i could refilm it however.
