Flow
Flow is a state of total absorption, where making feels effortless, instinctive, and alive. For four years, lhave been chasing it, catching glimpses, and losing it just as quickly. Life, noise, and the occasional spiral of self-doubt have been a habit of getting in the way. This collection maps that relationship. Working intuitively, 1 begin each piece digitally before realising it through 3D printing in nylon, metal work, and aluminium casting. Each material was chosen for its demands of me; nylon captures fluid digital form made physical, wire is where my intuition runs freest, and casting freezes a moment of movement permanently. Very little is planned in advance, and each piece reveals itself in the making, constructed through instinct rather than intention. Not every form is graceful. Some are fluid and liquid; others are tangled or restless – each a different version of how flow is felt, reflecting the process that made it. Where rigid geometric structures meet organic, flowing forms, that tension becomes visible. This collection asks what it means to be in control of something as instinctive as flow, and whether control is even the right word. Four years of momentum and confusion, clarity and conflict, worn on the body.
2D Behind the Process
The 2D design process acts as the starting point for each brooch, providing a space to explore movement, composition, and form before they become physical objects. Working intuitively through digital drawing and CAD modelling, lines are manipulated, layered, and repeated to capture a sense of flow and spontaneity. Rather than functioning as fixed plans, these drawings serve as records of experimentation, allowing forms to evolve organically throughout the design process. The transition from 2D image to 3D printed object preserves the energy of the original marks while translating them into wearable structures.
3D Behind the Process
The making process behind this collection is one of continual exploration. Through CAD modelling, 3D-printed prototypes, material sampling, and bench work, ideas are tested, adapted, and reimagined. Successes and failures are equally important, each informing the next stage of development. These process pieces reveal the journey behind the final brooches, highlighting the experimentation, persistence, and intuitive decision-making that shape the collection.
Final Outcomes
The final collection brings together four years of exploration into flow, intuition, and the act of making. Through a series of SLS nylon 3D-printed brooches, organic forms intertwine with geometric structures, creating a visual dialogue between movement and control. Each piece emerged through an instinctive design process, evolving through experimentation rather than predetermined outcomes. The collection captures moments of momentum, uncertainty, and discovery, transforming them into wearable objects that reflect the complexities of creative practice and the pursuit of flow.
