(She/Her)

My practice is heavily inspired by and for my current interests. You could probably guess that this year it was reading and rouge-like card games. Texture is a key theme in my works, whether its via printmaking such as collagraph seen in “The trials” or through digital works such as my book cover project.

The Trial Card Game

“The Trials” was inspired by the main subject in my dissertation looking at moral panics and focusing on our modern-day socio-political cultures and how they are still deeply influenced by the same ideals and beliefs that created the original 15th-century witch hunts. The moral panic was not purely born of the fear of women, it had a goal. Whether it was sexual power, knowledge, social, or women starting to gain independence from the men in the house. The social anxieties at the time allowed the massive growth of the trails to escalate for centuries. We see prevailing moral panics in modern times, not just targeting women, but also other minorities such as social outcasts, people who struggle with mental health issues, and queer people.

The Trials feature 2 (60 card) decks created through collagraph, one based on witches themselves and spell casting to create bigger creatures, and a goat/ the devil deck where the aim is to make as many goats as possible to feed the “Witching Hour”. The game rules follow closely to the mechanics of Magic The Gathering, so that means there is lots of ways to win besides from the decks main win conditions.
