Stella Dalgleish

(She/Her)

Themes of nostalgia are often found in my work. Process drives my practice and often inspires tactile, colourful and textured outcomes. I like to incorporate found imagery and ephemera as well as making use of my personal archives of photo and video documentation. I try to weave narrative into everything I do, whether thats a film, illustration or an organised event. Through out all of my work I like to produce playful storylines and observations. Going forward, I am keen to continue my documentary filmmaking journey.

The Sky Family

The Sky Family, is a short, mixed media film that tells the story of the imaginary family I had when I was a child, the story coinsides with the recent discovery I made, that my family lack memories of me growing up.

Using family archive photos, personal archive footage, animation and photo transfers, the film is combination of processes, digital and analogue, that blend together, producing a colourful, tactile, sentimental piece, highlighting the inner workings family dynamics and the experience of being the youngest child.

The Office Christmas Party

The Office Christmas Party, was an event on the 11th of December 2024.

I organised the night with Jacob Raymond, of Mallet Space, as way to raise money for the band to fund recording fees.

The night was an audience-participatory performance piece, following the narrative of BUM Corporation’s Christmas Party.

Bum Corporation is a fictional company invented by myself and friends, most notably for the collaborative publication, BUM magazine.

To document the evening, I created the third edition of BUM Magazine, using photos taken by Anna Bologna and video stills from my recording of the evening.

The publication uses a fictional HR report as a narrative device to weave a story between the photos.

The Butcher’s Sausage

The Butcher’s Sausage is a fictional pub, invented by me, inspired by my local pub, in Lechlade (my home town).

The three different posters pose as event listings, depicting the on goings at the pub and the behaviour of the locals, with punny people and place names.

Taking influence from classic British wrestling ephemera, I designed the posters to resemble the same theatrical aesthetic, to highlight the fictional boozer’s conflicts.

The posters were produced in The Caseroom, using Letter Press and Omnicrom processes.

I was lucky enough to exhibit the Karaoke poster in the 60 Years of The Caseroom exhibition in Feburary 2025, as well as the Maybe exhibition in December 2024.

Shopping List

Shopping List is a short mixed media film, that demonstrates my impulse to collect discarded shopping lists, as explored in my Design History and Theory essay, Lotto, Fags, Mags.

The film is mix of scanned lists, ephemera, etchings and footage.

The combination of textured visuals and whispering audio creates a POV style insight to my routine of collecting.

Women On The Verge of a Nervous Breakdown

We were briefed to make three layered screen printed film posters. I was assigned, Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown, a 1988, Spanish film by Pedro Almodovar. Taking inspiration 60’s film poster design, I used collage and ripped paper techniques to create the poster.
