Sunny Min (민성희)

(She/Her)

Sunny Min is an artist who primarily uses writing and sculptural methods, alongside experimentation with various media

such as rituals, collecting, simplification, and observation, to create works centred on the act of dedication: dedicating one’s time and space to found or lost entities and thoughts.

Here’s to the small, mundane moments within life.

Here’s to the writings and sayings I came across.

Here’s to the ones who were left behind.

Here’s to the lost objects.

Here’s to the lost loved ones.

These examples are the core inspirations of where her works are unearthed from.

The Objects That Drink (물들은 차림)

The work arose as a medium for reflecting on the nature of personal grief, remembrance, and ritual. The core of the piece is framed conceptually by traditional Korean cultural practices, with the shelving forming a three-dimensional manifestation of historic painted silk screens (Chaekgado), which resembled shelves containing objects intended to convey an enlightened household. This imagery is transformed in ‘물들은 차림 (The Objects That Drink)’ into physical objects which, rather than aspirational ornaments, act as physical and ritualised reflections of the memories both shared with a friend and experienced after their passing.
