Hello! My name is Vikka, short for Victoria and I am an oil based painter currently living in Glasgow. There are different layers within my work that make up the paintings you get to see on this page. Initially, world building is a huge interest of mine. Furthermore I’m interested in how we connect, often the worlds that I paint are stripped from all the familiarity at first. What is left when you get rid of one particular place or one particular time? This is the starting point that I work with. I also focus on the performative yet everyday elements of human nature, through movement and within the catharsis of the situations that the characters find themselves in. In my paintings I focus on the spaces that are within our souls, the ones that can’t be pinpointed by physical means. I try to find the connections that embody the feeling of being alive in different ways. As I have mentioned, the characters of my paintings exist within different times, within different places with or without knowing each other, however they are still part of one large narrative. It isn’t always positive nor is it negative, but it is simply my observations of the world around me which I wholeheartedly invite you to be a part of. Lastly an overarching interest throughout the beginning of my practice has been a persons journey to faith, to God. I’ve often made physical pathways for the characters of my paintings to find what they’re looking for, the people are in my paintings are also often in a cathartic moment which will inevitably and in my hopefulness for the characters, will bring them closer to God.
