Will Moss

(He / Him)

Shaped by temporalities and material dichotomies, my work is motivated by my observation of the transient materiality of the environments that surround us. Through rejection of traditional painting mediums, I like to work with the tension between material value and function, using the framework of abstraction. This allows me to visually manifest man made and natural processes of erosion, weathering and decay. This is investigated through extensive material experimentation using organic materials such as tea and oxides to not emulate, but to authentically represent the aesthetic of decay. Using materials that have the ability to change form and appearance like iron oxide, not only makes the work a meditation on impermanence, but also introduces the alchemistic ideologies that drive the processes of my practice.
