William Armstrong

William Armstrong is an artist from Red Deer, Alberta, Canada. Prior to coming to Glasgow for the MFA, he studied at Red Deer Polytechnic and the Alberta University of the Arts.
Drawing from his experiences living in car-dependent cities, Armstrong investigates the role of the pedestrian in environments designed for the vehicle. He explores the impact of distance by undertaking lengthy walks to the edgelands, from retail establishments and motorways, to wastelands and car parks. Combining imagery pulled from these journeys, his work is reflective of intrusions in the landscape, both concrete and transitory.
