Internet Artefacts
I focused this project on the idea of ‘digital decay’, the gradual degradation and corruption of digital data and assets. Throughout my research, I kept making connections between digital decay, the current state of the internet and archaeological methods. The terms “digital dark age”, “deleted city”, and “digital Pompeii” all relate to archaeological practices.
By using 3d scans of museum artefacts, I combined lost data and images scraped from the early internet and engraved them into digitised artefacts to create an ‘internet artefact’ using blender. I combined these archaeological and digital elements to highlight the Internet’s impermanence.
