Zeng Yuting

(She/Her)

As an interior design student, Zeng Yuting focused on an almost global issue – population aging. She attempted to create her works and express her ideas by using collage, painting, and the Chinese elements she was familiar with. In spatial design, her focus was on the comfort of elderly people’s living and on the socially active elderly, integrating some methods for disease prevention into daily activities. The “Town” project provided her with more assistance for elderly-friendly design and also made her re-recognize the importance of elderly-friendly design and barrier-free design not only for the elderly.

Town

This is a special nursing home. Besides the necessary care functions of a nursing home, it also has more interesting activity rooms to ensure that the lives of the elderly are full of fun. Moreover, college students live together with the elderly, providing companionship for them and promoting intergenerational connections. This model not only reduces the loneliness of the elderly but also establishes meaningful connections between different generations, benefiting both the elderly and the college students.

“Town” is the name I came up with for this project and also the name of this nursing home. The name is derived from “town” in “homeland”, meaning that the nursing home can be another homeland for the residents, and it can also be understood as the nursing home being the shelter for the residents.

This building was completed in 1992. Since its construction, it has been used as a residence. Coupled with its surrounding environment, it is highly suitable as a site for a nursing home.
