Fine Art Photography

Stow Building, 18 students

Established in 1982, the Photography Programme at the GSA was the first programme of its kind in Europe to award a BA(Hons) Degree in Fine Art Photography and has produced successive generations of successful graduates, many of whom are now leaders in their field.

The programme is unusual within photographic education as it offers an opportunity to study photography as a specialist medium specifically within the context of contemporary fine art practice. It is a studio-based course that places a strong emphasis on the making of work. Given the prevalence of photographic images in our culture, the course aims to offer a critical platform from which fundamental questions about the nature of the photograph can be proposed and discussed.
